About Us
Kiss that frog!
Some of Chris' earliest memories are of sitting in front of the fire in his pyjamas watching The Muppet Show before he went to bed. This led to a heartbreaking attempt, aged 5, to get Jim to Fix It For Him to be a Muppet. After his neatly crayonned letter (with illustrations) was rejected he vowed never to to watch Jim'll Fix It again but his love for puppets remained.
Unfortunately he was a man torn and after completing 6 'A' levels in a mix of sciences and arts he chose his love of science... well, sharks really... and did both a B.Sc in Marine Biology and a M.Sc in Marine and Fisheries Science.
But, despite media hype to the contrary, he discovered marine biology is not all dolphins, sharks and tropical reefs. Mostly it's seasickness, skittery things with too many legs (or no legs at all) and poo. So after years of being cold and wet, with a rebellious inner ear and stomach warring against him, he returned to dry land and decided to make a career out of his second love and the hobbies that had kept him sane. He never did much like dolphins anyway.
Thus was Puppetuity born.
Chris has performed in front of intimate audiences in the back of a shop at storytelling festivals and wandered the crowds inside a 12 foot tall puppet at music festivals. He's done film work for the Poppy Appeal Banquet and helped raise money for local drama groups at improv nights. He's run a venue tent at the Skipton International Puppet Festival and done walkabout puppetry for vintage fayres. He's given talks and done workshops in schools and libraries for a range of different age groups and educational levels, from Primary school, via special needs classes, to the local WI. Having led hundreds of puppet making workshops and masterclasses all over the country he's a wiz with paper, pens and glue, teaching the young at heart to bring the inanimate to life.
As a maker he's built puppets for film and theatre and dealt with clients with some surprising requests. He's run stalls and done impromptu puppet shows with stuffed toys for the Shark Trust at aquaria and his illustrations have featured in shark biology books and DVDs, on Christmas cards and in calendars. He's a member of BrUNIMA, P:UK, PuppetHub, Puppetsmith, the Shark Trust and an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Shark Conservation Society.
He completed his Diploma in Professional Puppetry at the London School of Puppetry in February 2013 and has done further short courses with the likes of Pif-Paf and Norwich Puppet Theatre.
He also worries constantly that writing about yourself in the third person is bad for you.
